MD State Form 502 - Tax Exemption Does Not Total Correctly

Good Morning!

When it comes to the Maryland State Tax Form 502 in the "Exemptions," boxes for "Yourself" and "Spouse" is checked, and when it comes to "Input number checked," it says "2" times $1,600, but the "Total Amount" is $1,600 rather than $3,200. Please provide advice.

Respectfully,

B Adams

It's possible that what you're seeing is an exemption limitation based on income.

For example, if you're married filing jointly and your federal adjusted gross income was over $175,000 but not over $200,000, the exemption amount for each of you would drop to $800, resulting in the Total Amount that you're seeing.

Please see Exemption Amount Chart (10A) and 10 Exemptions in the Maryland State and Local Tax Forms and Instructions, available on Maryland's 2022 Individual Income Tax Forms page.

If this isn't the case, please post back.
