Married Filing Jointly F1 resident and F2 non resident with no US Income and No SSN/ITIN

I am a US resident for tax purposes on an F1 VISA doing PhD. I got married this year and my wife is on F2 VISA and has no income this year and is a non-resident for US tax and don't have SSN or ITIN. Can we file together as a couple for this tax year? Can it be done through Turbo Tax?

Married Filing Jointly F1 resident and F2 non resident with no US Income and No SSN/ITIN

Hello my friend and thank you for your question

If you are considered a US resident for tax purposes and had earned income or investment income you are required to file a resident tax return form 1040.   If you got married you can file for an ITIN for your wife and filed Married Filing jointly, which will benefit you.

You can file your tax return with Turbo Tax but you have to print it.  To file for ITIN for your wife you need to file form W7.  The fastest processing time to get your ITIN and process your tax return is to take your tax return Form 1040 and Form W7 personally to your local IRS office.

I hope this answered your questions

Thank you so much
