mail-in amended return
I know the limit on electronic amended returns is three years after the filing date; but what is the limit for paper/mailed-in amended returns? I want to amend my 2015 return. Can I?
Amended returns can be filed at any time. However, if the return is being amended for a tax refund then it must be filed within three years of the due date of the original return. For tax year 2015 that means on or before April 15, 2019. Filing for a tax refund with a 2015 tax return will not be paid.
