MA Part time non resident

I am non resident of MA. From Jan 1 to April 1 I worked part time in MA. MA taxes were taken out on my wages until April 1. After April 1, I began working full time outside of MA for the same company. I usually apportion MA income based on work days. Do I apportion the work days only from Jan 1 to April 1 (i.e. 90 days) or do I apportion the full year (i.e. 365 days)?

Thanks,

x

If you only worked in MA until April 1st, and continued to work for the same company outside of MA you would only apportion the time through the end of March to MA.   In your example, 90 days.

If you left the company you worked for part-time in MA and went to work for another company in another state you do not have to apportion anything.  All of the MA would be on one W-2 and the balance for the full-time job would be on a different W-2.

Thank you, that's what I thought. My W2 is confusing as it lists MA as the state with MA wages which are through the end of March. If I had changed companies yes, I would have two W2's, but given that I stayed with the same company, I only received one W2. TT gave me a message that MA reporting income is lower than federal income and wanted an explanation.

Thanks for the response, appreciate it!
