Did you enter your banking information correctly for the direct deposit?   Did you enter the correct mailing address on your Form 1040 so the IRS has the address to mail you a letter or a check?

If you e-filed:

Banking information for direct deposit is wrong or closed

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information

If your refund is sent back to the IRS—- make certain that the address you entered on your Form 1040 is correct.  And…open all mail, even if it looks like junk mail.

As for 2020----when did you file 2020?  Did you e-file it or mail it?  The IRS refund site is no longer showing information for 2020 -- you have to call the IRS to find out what happened.   Was the e-file rejected, or not filed successfully?

What does it say in your account for the 2020 return?  Does it show that the return was accepted?   Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”

To  call the IRS:IRS:  800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri

Listen to each menu before making the selection.

First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

Then do NOT choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."  It should then transfer you to an agent.

If you did not file 2020 successfully you only have until May 17, 2024 to mail a copy of that return or you will forfeit the refund.
