Last year I was fined for not deducting enough. Should I change my deductions from Married Joint to something else?

My HR person said I should deduct like I file.  If it would break even that would be ok but I owed 1k+. I have ss and a low income job.

Use the Tax Withholding Estimator on the IRS web site to figure out what to put on your W-4 form. It will show you how to adjust your withholding to get the approximate refund amount that you want.

Don't rely on HR for tax advice.
