The Schedule K-1 is automatically generated when filing a final estate tax return. If there is nothing to report on the Schedule K-1, does it still need to be sent to the beneficiaries.

No, it does not. However, it is considered to be a good practice so that the beneficiaries are made aware that they have no tax liability for any distribution from the estate.
