Hi Community
Needed your help regarding an IRS notice that I received.
I had applied for my daughters' ITINs this year (2 daughters) using the W7 form.
I had claim $1000 credit for both dependents ($500 each) in my tax returns (1040).
The W7 was sent along with the tax returns to IRS before the due date (15th April 2022). My W7 was processed and I received the 2 ITINs.
I have now received a notice from the IRS to pay $1000 plus interest as the 1040 forms did not have the ITINs mentioned.
Could you please assist and let me know if:
a) I need to pay the $1000 (plus interest)
b) Contact IRS to explain the situation that the ITINs were applied for with the returns this year or
c) File an amended tax return with the new ITINs.
Appreciate your help.
Thanks and Regards,
N

Ok ... did you mail the W-7 (with the tax return attached) to the address for the W-7 processing office ? Or did you incorrectly mail it to the 1040 processing address ?
This is where you were to mail in the W-7 :
Internal Revenue Service
Austin Service Center
ITIN Operation
P.O. Box 149342
Austin, TX 78714-9342
This was done by H&R Block . They have a department to process ITINs . I am sure they correctly sent it to the Austin address.
Any leads . Request assistance.
