Hi folks.
My wife and my daughter both don't have SSN or ITIN. And I looked up online and found out that I need to apply for ITIN for them. However if I understand correctly, applying a ITIN needs 1040 tax return document and 1040 tax return document generation needs SSN or ITIN.
So is this infinite cycle? how can I get a 1040 tax return document for my wife and daughter if they don't have SSN/ITIN?
Thanks
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You have to print out the tax forms and write "Applied" in the SSN space. Without an SSN or ITIN, you won't be able to e-file.
Here are the steps:
Note that, if you are applying for some tax benefits, for example, the Earned Income Credit EIN or the Child Tax Credit, you must have an SSN in order to claim.
Hi @LinaJ2020
Thanks so much for your reply. I'm wondering where I can download the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms from turbotax as I just filed all the information in my turbotax form?
Or do I have to print the raw 1040 forms from IRS official website and fill them all manually?
Thanks
Best
Xiao
In the TurboTax program, you will follow prompts and enter the related information. The program will generate your Form 1040. Starting from 2018, you no longer use Form 1040-EZ nor 1040-A. It will be either Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR for seniors.
As I mentioned, you can still use TurboTax to prepare all your tax forms. You just can't e-file your tax return while applying for an ITIN. You will have to print out all the forms and paper-file.
