On your W-2:   If there are no amounts in box 18 (Local wages & tips) or box 19 (Local income tax), then you should leave Boxes 18-20 blank.   Don't enter zero if the field has 0, just leave it blank.

Are you entering a W-2 or a W-2G @danada134?    I just tested both and neither are showing errors.

On a W-2, Box 20 is the name of the locality that is assessing the tax.   If you have an amount in box 18 (Local wages & tips) or box 19 (Local income tax), then you need to enter the locality name in box 20.

On a W-2G, Box 18 is the name of the locality.    If you have an amount in box 16 (Local winnings) or box 17 (Local income tax withheld), then you need to enter the locality name in box 18.

I have the same issue where Box 18 on my W-2 is blank, but Box 17, 19 and 20 have values.  I followed the W-2 and entered into TurboTax 2024.  And when I tried to file, I get that same error.

I have tried putting 0, 0.00 and blank, non of them worked.

I even deleted my W-2 information in Turbo Tax 2024 and re-entered, and I continue to get the same error.

I looked back on the previous 10 years of W-2 and they were all the same and I had no issue with filing in the past, only happening in version 2024.

I think it is a glitch with Turbo Tax 2024.

Box 18 would report the local wages on which the local taxes listed in box 19 are calculated. So, you can't have local taxes without local wages. If you worked in the same place all year, the local wages may be equal to your state wages as reported in box 16. If you don't have an amount in box 16 you will have to ask you employer about the amount of your local wages and enter that in box 18.

@ThomasM125 , thank you for the suggestion.  I put the data from box 16 into box 18, that error went away.

And I do see the final amount we owe didnt increased.

But I will wait a for a week or 2 to see if Turnbo Tax would fix this.  If not then I will file with your suggestion.

For the past 15 years, I always left Box 18 blank as it is in on my W-2 and it always has no issue.  So it is just strange that now it is required.
