Why am i being charged for state tax returns when it says its free?

The free state promotion that ends on March 15th is only for the TurboTax Free Edition.  The information above shows you are using the TurboTax Deluxe Edition.  Please find the following link for our Online Product Guide:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

There is a fee to use the benefits and services of TurboTax Deluxe for both State and Federal returns.

The TurboTax Free Edition is for filing a simple return using either the 1040EZ or 1040A form and the standard deduction with the following criteria:

  • Made less than $100,000
  • Don't own a home or rental property
  • Didn't sell investments
  • Don't own a business or have 1099-MISC income
  • Don't have any major medical expenses

It looks like you are using the Deluxe version. The Free State is only applicable to the Absolute Zero Free Edition.
