Issue with e-filing getting error in Schedule C line 27b "Qualified Energy Efficiency Commercial Buildings"

After speaking to a support person from Intuit, I decided to try to find a way to change the input value in the form (showing as zero (0.). This caused the error as the software sees the 0 as a claim to the credit.

I fixed the issue by going to (using desktop intuit turbo tax home & business 2023) Tools tab and selecting "My Tax Data". Expand the window and search the list in section with Schedule C that has the description of the error line and the value "0." entered. Delete the 0. and leave the field blank. Save and the file and then go to "Smart Check" to redo the submission. In my case no more error and submission went through. Better late than never!

The only way I found to work to fix the "0" entry on line 27b of your schedule C was to do as follows:

 Go to TOOLS

Select TAX DATA

Find Schedule C form

Click on Line 27b

Right click on the "0"

Select "Cut" from the drop down menu thus leaving the line blank.

Save your return.

Close out Turbotax and restart.

You should now be able to run the Smart Check for your return and continue to the "File your return" option.

Worked well for me rather than following the online assistant's advice to print out form 7025 (which turbotax doesn't support) and mail my return via USPS thereby increasing the receipt of my refund by more than 3 extra weeks vs. e-filing which is supposed to be free.  I don't know why Turbotax doesn't support all forms needed, especially when I bought the software because they promised to help me complete my taxes without error.

Issue with e-filing getting error in Schedule C line 27b "Qualified Energy Efficiency Commercial Buildings"

Several users have brought up an issue in the past with Form 7205 (assuming that is the form to which you are referring), regarding the Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Deduction. Users who have stated that they do not own or rent any real estate or property for business were still being prompted to complete this form, and it was preventing e-filing.

Users encountering this situation have also found the following solution works when using TurboTax Home and Business:

In Business Expenses, under Other Common Business Expenses, search the list and you will find "Energy Efficient Buildings". Select Update and delete the 0 amount or other amount that appears.

This is done in the "step by step" view of Turbo Tax, NOT in the Forms view.

I did have the same issue , and keep hours thinking about  what I should do to correct an error that smart check couldn’t even fix it , until I decided to review the Forms and delete any thing in that line , that I don’t even wrote.
