Is this process paperless?

If you e-file your return it will be paperless.   You will not have to mail anything to the IRS or state.   It is a good idea to print  a copy of your return for your own records.

You can now file a completely paperless return, right down to your signature.

I do recommend keeping a PDF copy for future reference.
