Is it okay to not click the bubble for a 1099-NEC and enter the amount in "Other self-employed income including cash, checks, etc."? All payments to me were with paper checks.

A taxpayer identification number (TIN) is either a social security number or employer identification number. It is listed in the box on your Form 1099-NEC that says Payer's TIN. That is the number TurboTax is requesting.

The 1099-NEC entry should only be used for income reported on 1099 forms.  If your customers pay cash or check, report that separately.  Don't create imaginary 1099s if you don't have them.

Yes, you can select Other self-employed income, includes cash and checks.

If some of the income was also reported on 1099-NEC, you would not want to double-report so if you kept your records of checks received, you can report that way.

Ok. To clairfy, I DO have a 1099-NEC, but turbo tax is asking me for an EIN number or a social security number and all I have is a TIN number. What should I do now?
