Is it allowable/benifical to file my taxes if a parent had claimed me as a dependant

If you had less than $6300 of W2 income, or, less than $400 of 1099-MISC income, then you are not required to file. But you may choose to if you are getting a refund or have refundable tax credits.

If you do file, be sure to answer Yes to "can someone else claim you on their return?"
