Turbo Tax doesn't send your payment.
Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the IRS or state for them to take it out of your account. (Most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay). And some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and payments. Double check the number you entered with your bank.
Maybe the bank number was wrong and they couldn't take it out of your account.
When I finished with my return, Turbo Tax asked if I wanted to use my return to pay my taxes. I selected yes and then I only received the leftover amount from the IRS. I never received the full return, because used some of it to pay my taxes. Now the IRS is saying I owe them $700 but it was taken out of my return in the first place.
Whoa. You are mixing up things. If you have a refund you didn't have a tax due. Turbo Tax asked you if you wanted to pay the Turbo Tax fees out of your Refund. That's not "paying taxes".
Now a separate thing......seems like the IRS Adjusted your return and you owe them instead of getting a refund. They will send you a letter saying what they changed.
A common adjustment is if you claimed the Recovery rebate credit on 1040 line 30 when you already got the Stimulus payment or got the second one after you filed or reported the wrong amounts or entered them in the wrong box. Do you have an amount on line 30?
