At this point, the return must be filed by mail. Most rejections are for AGI, which no longer matters since you only needed it to e-file. E-filing has been permanently closed for a 2022 return since October 2023. You need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it to the IRS and state (if you have a state income tax).
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
If you are getting a refund there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, expect a bill from the IRS for the late penalty and interest you will owe.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
