Per your instructions and the mailing address on 2024 IRS Form 8453, I mailed form 8453 certified mail retrun recept requested and the supporting documents on 3/25/2024 which was the day after the IRS accepted my taxes. The post office still has no updates when I check the tracking number. The envelope has not been delivered and I have not received the return receipt. It was mailed to Internal Revenue Service, Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254, Receipt and Control Branch, Austin, TX 73344-0254. What is the problem. I have seen comments that the address is wrong. Hasn't the IRS put out a new address???? If the address is wrong it makes no sense to mail it again to the same address.

The address you used matches the information provided by TurboTax in this link as well as the form instructions from the IRS.
Since you used certified mail, you have proof of the documents being mailed as instructed.
At this point in time, you can refer to this information from the USPS for more guidance on delivery timeframes as well getting tracking status help.
I have the exact same issue. Do we know if the mailing address provided is truly wrong? Perhaps, the people who would normally be at that address to receive our mail have been fired??
I mailed my 8453 form and supporting documents on 4/7/25, certified. USPS tracking says the same as you, Available for Pickup, meaning can't be delivered.
I also mailed, certified, my Q1 estimated taxes, to a different address, on 4/7/25. That hasn't been delivered yet either. Headed to Louisville, KY. That address may have weather problems. USPS says "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility". I'm pretty sure the payment will be received and cashed.....
Hi. Has Intuit TurboTax received any information from the Federal Government about that particular address? I'm sure many people are mailing their info to Austin. Perhaps all the mail will be picked up on the 15th.... I'm hoping? Have there been any similar issues in prior years? Any information you can provide would be great. Thanks!
I got a reply from Employee Tax Expert that the address I put in my message was correct and also matched the address on the form. The Post Office ( when I track it using the tracking number ) only states that they have the envelope and the associated return receipt and that it is in the US Postal Service network? I may actually go to the Post office today to inquire. I also may try to contact other tax preparers, CPAs to see if they know anything. This is very frustrating and concerning. Also, if it should be returned to the sender the sender has to sign for it since it was sent return receipt requested.
if you return has been accepted I don't think you should be too concerned about whether the 8453 made it by today.
Personally, I doubt they even look at this below a certain threshold, or that you will ever hear about this again, and this PO BOX is probably inundated with mailings from TT users, likely exacerbated this year by all the problems with importing 1099s. From what I've seen in this forum, a lot of this 8453 is avoidable, TT encourages jamming all 1099s into sales summaries, but any adjustment to a summary will then trigger this 8453 mailing as it is missing the details. This is avoidable by entering these adjustments/exceptions (wash sales, AMD, noncovered categories) as "one by one" (and the remaining balance of the 1099 as a clean unadjusted sales summary) which sends the detail electronically on Form 8949 with your return.
as for payments @buteo35 was concerned about his check, if able going forward you can pay electronically and this will likely be mandated going forward as Trump issued exec order to largely eliminate checks from this process. I've been paying electronically for some years, no vouchers, no USPS. Just beware the IRS debits quickly, it will happen overnight after you enter it so ensure the money is in the account. State likely has equivalent process also.
Good news. Yesterday I received the return request green card in the mail. It was stamped Received April 2. IRS Austin, Texas. I mailed the 8453 and supporting documents on 3/25/2025. It took 8 days to get there. It took 13 days to get the green card back return receipt --in the mail.
