A couple possibilities:
A) Did not receive your tax forms....or received them but IRS didn't receive what you owed them?
Paying TTX and filing the forms doesn't "pay" the IRS if you owed them more $$ at tax time. You needed to do that payment in some way...by either arranging a direct Debit when you e-filed, or paying by check by mail yourself, or going to the IRS website and using their payment portal for what you owed.
B) OR..the IRS Didn't receive your entire tax file:
1) paying for TTX software comes before the actual filing step. Payin the fees does nto fil it. You actually have to go thru the subsequent steps and hit a button to "Transmit" the file to the IRS (& State if appropriate)
2) if you did that, and you got an email noting it was "Transmitted".....well that doesn't mean the IRA "Accepted" that filing. The IRS computers could have "Rejected" it for one or more of many reasons, and you w re supposed to fix the problem and re-e-file.
3) Did you check your TTX file to see that it was "Accepted"?
4) What does your 2023 filing indicate now? If it says "Printed" then it wasn't filed....Printed indicates that YOU were supposed to print it out and file by mail.
If they (IRS) didn't get your 2023 tax file itself, for whatever reason, then you need to print it out now, sign, date, attach any W-2 forms and any other documents showing Federal withholding, and mail them in to the IRS. E-Filing is no longer available for 2023 taxes using consumer software. (State too if you have to file 2023 to your state)
And....paying your TurboTax fees did not file your tax return. Did you go all the way through the FILE section and click the big orange button that said "Transmit my returns now?" If you did not do that, then you did not file your tax return. If you e-filed successfully, your account should say the return was "accepted." If it says anything other than accepted--such as "rejected," "Printed," or "ready to mail" then you did not e-file successfully.
If the return has not been filed, then you will need to file it now by printing it, signing and dating it in ink, and mailing it in. E-filing for past years is permanently closed.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
