My fiancé was in a detention center being held from October - December. His employer continue to pay him during the time. Does he answer yes to the question asking if you were an inmate? Everything states it’s for the Earned Tax Credit which he doesn’t get anyways.

Yes, he would answer the question Yes that he was an inmate. There is a question mark in a circle you can select to get more information, which is shown below.

When any of those scenarios apply to the taxpayer, then make the selection. Income earned as an inmate does not qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit.
