I accidently filled out single with no dependents on my Form W-4 for work.
I have two dependents. Can I still claim them?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Assuming you are referring to a Form W-4, which is what you provide to your employer to report your filing status, number of dependents, and other withholding allowances, you can submit a new form to your employer at any time to correct this information and it will change your withholding for future paychecks.
You can ask your employer for a new form or you can have TurboTax prepare one. See here for more information.
The filing status and the number of dependents that you reported to your employer don't affect the way you report them on your income tax return. When you complete the personal information section of TurboTax for your 2022 tax return, answer the questions regarding your marital status and dependents and TurboTax will determine what tax rates and credits apply to you.
Thank you! I already filled the form out for my employer to match my correct information. I thought what I filled out had to match my 2022 tax filings, which would be what was first claimed, no dependents. I wish I understood this better!
