If your NJ State Tax return is printed and says "ready to mail" How come the 2020 NJ-1040 says DO NOT MAIL across the documents?

The Turbo Tax File by Mail Instructions for 2020 NJ Tax Return says "The official return for mailing is included in this printout"
But the first 5 pages have DO NOT MAIL E FILE ONLY written across them. I did not e-file my return, I chose the mail option. Now what am I suppose to do?

Wait.

The paper versions for NJ tax returns are not ready.

The final printed forms for NJ are not "expected" to be ready until ~28 January or after that.

The current software is also using 2019 limits for NJ FLI/SDI etc...so you have to wait for those updates before those limits are properly implemented.

Print&Paper filing is likely to take months to get processed.  Waiting until after 12 Feb to e-file will likely be much faster.

But you can get printed forms here: https://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/pdf/current/1040.pdf

Why is Turbo tax still saying they are not ready?

1)  This conversation is from last year, not 2022.

2)  It is very common for the paper forms are fully ready from a state's website before they are available from any software company.  After that state publishes their final forms, then the Software companies have to go thru them to make sure they are exactly what the state published...then have to get their versions of the forms approved by that state.  That can take a few more weeks, depending on staffing even without reduced staff due to Covid.
