I want my refund applied to next year's tax as an estimated tax.

If you have not yet filed your tax return -

To add, change or delete a current year federal tax refund to next year's taxes before you file your tax return -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Other Tax Situations
  • Under Additional Tax Payments
  • On Apply Refund to Next Year, click on the start or update button

I hope this information helps. Best of luck!

I want my refund applied to next year's tax as an estimated tax.

If the estimated tax is due April 15, what if the IRS doesnt process your refund until after? Is the estimated payment late (when using the prior year's refund towards the first estimated payment, despite filing before April 15)?
