Hello I am trying to file an extension. I get a refunded because of my kids every year. What does it mean to estimate my federal taxes owed?

If you get a refund every year and you expect a refund this year, then you don't actually need to file an extension.  There are no penalties for filing late when you have a refund.

The question is asking how much tax you expect to owe, so if you expect to not owe federal taxes, then you could enter 0 if you prefer to file an extension anyway.

If I don't file an extension for my federal will my state be affected? I have a very small amount of income less than $1300 when I traveled for my company for a week. Do I need to file an extension for the state of MA?
