If I'm on my parents 1095-A but my allocation is 0%. Do I have to mail in my tax return? They cannot claim me as a dependent. I was prompted to mail using other software.

The other software I utilized gave me this message: "The IRS won't allow returns to be e-filed that have no premiums, SLCSP amounts, or advance payment amounts on Form 1095-A after any shared allocations. Please go back to the Add / Edit / Delete Health Insurance Marketplace Statement (Form 1095-A) screen and double check your information. If your information is correct, you'll need to mail your return instead of e-filing."

It depends.

Please see the following to determine if you entered the correct amounts in.  You may have to discuss this with your parents but you can also go online to HealthCare.gov to determine how much you should be entered in the information for your portion of the Form 1095-A form.

What if I am filing but I am on my parent's 1095-A form

If you determine you should be entering amounts, this will eliminate the error and allow you to e-file your return.

Thank you for the response. Based on the link provided, I fall under "I'm on my parents' health plan but not on their tax return, I didn't get a 1095-A and there are amounts in column C on my parents' 1095-A"

1. I would put a 0% allocation for premiums, SLCSP, and the Premium Credit, as my parents will do 100%.

2. Does TurboTax require Box 33A, 33B and 33C to be entered from my parents return? And would having a 0% allocation of these amounts require me to mail my return vs. e-file?

Thank you

You should still be able to e-file your return.
