No.  Your dependent's income is not entered on your own tax return and will have no effect on your own return.

 

Depending on how much your dependent received from their job and unemployment benefits, the dependent may need to file a tax return---either to pay tax owed or to receive a refund of tax withheld by the employer and/or unemployment.

 

Unemployment compensation is taxable on your federal return.  Enter your 1099G for unemployment in Federal>Wages and Income>Unemployment

You might need to get your 1099G from the state’s unemployment site.

 

STATES THAT TAX UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

 

AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, DC, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, ME, MD, MI, MN, MS, MO, NB, NM, NY,NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, UT, VT, WV, WI

The dependent files their own tax return to report the unemployment income.  You do not enter the dependents income on your tax return.

 

If the dependent is age 19 or older, Not a full time student and has gross income of $4,300 or more you cannot claim them as a dependent on your tax return.
