If a check from the state was received and cashed in 2018 but dated 2017 does it count as 2017 income or 2018 income.

If a check from the state was received and cashed in 2018 but dated 2017 does it count as 2017 income or 2018 income.

If the state issued the check in 2017 then the 1099-G will be for 2017 and it will be expected on your 2017 return.
