Until the ITIN is issued the return will not be complete ... the return is mailed in with the W-7 application and when the ITIN is issued the return is forwarded for processing and the IRS will recompute the return at that time automatically.
Hi Critter. Yes, I understand the process you mentioned. In my case, I should mail the completed 1040 and W-7 so that IRS can proceed ITIN issuance and then tax return. My point is, I need to file the correct 1040 in which child tax credit is not counted for my dependents who do not have SSN. It seems that, when one left SSN field blank, Taxturbo assume he/she has valid SSN (but just left blank for some reason). I would like to correct this issue. Any advices are appreciated.
You will attach the incomplete 1040 to the W-7 and mail them both to the W-7 processing center and after they have issued the ITIN they will forward the 1040 to the IRS and the IRS will enter the child's ITIN on the return and complete it for you. They have always done this ... all you ever had to do is complete the return down to the taxable income line ... the IRS will gladly complete the rest of the return for you.
