I was under the impression that my cost is 29.99 why the increase?

The cost for the Free Edition is currently free for federal and 29.99 for state. If you chose the optional Plus features, there is another 29.99 fee for that. If you chose the optional service to have your fees paid from your federal refund, there is a $34.99 charge for that optional service. You can avoid that charge by paying with a credit card.

You should be able to see what your fees are for by clicking on My Account then Tools then My Fees.
