I am filing 2017 taxes using an old version of TurboTax I bought for 2017. I was told I needed to file 2017 before filing 2018 because i need an AGI to file 2018. I am denied from e-filing because the period of time has already past. Which I understand. So I went to print out for mail and sent in my Federal return by mail. But now when looking through my state return (ny state) it says it is unlawful to send an electronically prepared tax form int he mail and I need to e-file it. But in the Turbotax software it seems 1. you can only e-file both federal and state together and 2. E-filing is rejected because the period in time has closed.
Please help! Thank you! I am trying to get this figured out before april 15th because I want to be able to file 2018 on time.

A 2017 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
If you are referring to the state tax return for New York state, then the state of NY will allow a tax return to be mailed if the software being used is not capable of electronic filing.
