I WANT TO REVIEW MY FEDERAL TAX RETURN BEFORE FILING

It's difficult to tell if the system is going to let me actually see my return and review it before filing.

I WANT TO REVIEW MY FEDERAL TAX RETURN BEFORE FILING

There are two ways you can do it.

First, when you're logged into your return, go to the upper margin of the screen and click on My Account.  Then from the dropdown box select Tools.  When the Tool Center window opens, click on the first item in the list of Other Helpful Links, View Tax Summary.  When the summary page loads, look up above the summary and click on Preview My 1040. That will show you the two-page 1040 form for you to review.

Second, if you want to see all the various forms & schedules that are included with the 1040, then you'll need to pay first (you won't have to file yet).  Once you've made payment, then again go to My Account, click on Print Center from the dropdown box, and you'll be able to print/download the entire tax return, including all forms & schedules.

I WANT TO REVIEW MY FEDERAL TAX RETURN BEFORE FILING

I don't understand.  I've already paid for Turbo Tax Premier 20 and it comes with a free e-file for the federal return.  Why do I have to pay again in order to review my entire return with all forms and documentation in order to see it?   Doesn't make sense and I just want to review the return before filing.

This is a new forum layout. Some posts that have June 2019 dates are really older posts from the old forum that got moved over. So they might be for prior years and not current info. When they migrated over the dates got changed to June 2019. And the screen shots got deleted.

Are you using the Online version or buy the Desktop CD/Download program?  Is there a black menu bar down the left side?  That is the Online browser version.

If you are in the Online version maybe you added a state return or some other service.

I WANT TO REVIEW MY FEDERAL TAX RETURN BEFORE FILING

I am using the online version and yes I did complete my state return as well and I know there will be a fee for e-filing of I can choose to mail the hard copy to the state.   Still doesn't make sense that i can't review my return.

The version I have has a black box all the way across the top and when I click on tools and then final review it just goes back and performs a review of the return - same as it did during the completion process.  Still cannot see the return.

The Tools and subsequent review in the drop down box does not exactly match the instructions in the original answer but it's as close to following the instructions in the original answer.   Am I missing something?

But was there a black column on the left side with the menus?  Are you on a computer or your phone?

Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

In the online version you have to pay to prepare the state return whether you efile or print and mail it.  So you have to pay all the fees before you can print.

I WANT TO REVIEW MY FEDERAL TAX RETURN BEFORE FILING

There is no black column on the left side.  Just the one I indicated across the top.   Maybe to confuse things even a little more I originally purchased the CD version that included 1 free state return with it from a local retailer and downloaded it.   I was having difficulty importing my broker 1099 forms and was told I could only use the online version to import those 1099's and so the TT agent replaced my CD version with an online version.   In order to download the online version, I was required to remove the CD version first.   I assumed it was the same as the CD version I had already purchased with the 1 free state return but maybe that was not the case?

At any rate I reviewed the short video you included and my version does not have the black column on the left as I stated earlier.  This seems to be getting more convoluted and confusing but I still cannot review my tax return and since I am not sure what's in it, I am not sure I can use it.  I have been using a local accountant to complete my taxes the last few years but it is pretty expensive to do that.   Prior to having my taxes completed professionally I have always used Turbo Tax and so this year I thought I would do a trial run using both my accountant as well as complete the TT version so I could compare them and maybe switch back to completing my taxes with TT going forward so I do not plan on filing with TT this year.  I just wanted to see how they compare so I had confidence using TT going forward.

Sorry for the long explanation but hopefully it will help explain my motivation and why I do not want to pay again or more for a return I do not intend to use this year.  It is just a comparison.

Thank you.
