I want to file federal tax extensions. Sickness in my family and I don't want to have to figure out any information. Is this doable?

An extension does not give you extra time to pay your tax due.  It gives you extra time to prepare your Form 1040 and file it.  If you owe tax you still need to pay by April 18, 2023, and then enter the amount you paid into the return when you file it.

Totally doable and very easy to do.  If you go under Federal taxes and "Other Tax situations", there's a file an extension option that walks you through it.  I did it last year.  The only problem that I wasn't aware of is if you're going to OWE taxes in, you still technically owe that by the normal deadline, so if you wait to pay until when you file in October, you're going to pay some gross late fees.  IF you can reasonably expect a tax refund (like you normally get one and nothing has changed), you don't have to worry about that at all.  The government would LOVE to keep your money for longer.  When I filed, I knew I'd owe about $1000 in because I had my return mostly complete, so I sent in a payment with my extension.  When you do file, this adds a bit of complexity, but it all comes out in the end and I got some of that back.

Best of luck to you. My prayers are with your family.
