I'll assume you bought a download of the Mac version. If you bought the CD, however, it already has both Mac and Windows version on it.
If you purchased the wrong download from TurboTax, here's how to phone Customer Support to ask for the Windows version of the installation file.

FAQ: What is the TurboTax phone number?

there are no tools in the side bar. there doesn't seem to be a way to change the product I have purchased. I just want to downgrade to a less complex options. I have home & business. and I just need a plain old format without all the business stuff. Is there anyway to do this?

Your situation is not completely clear in that paragraph.
If you are using desktop software, there is no left-column menu that contains "tax tools." Why are you looking for Tax Tools? That's used by ONLINE users who wish to downgrade from Online Premium or Online Deluxe to a lower edition.
Since you said "Home and Business" I assume you are referring to desktop software and that you installed the software on your computer using either a CD or a downloaded installation file. Is that correct?
You wrote: "I just need a plain old format without all the business stuff."
How did you end up with the "Home and Business Edition?" I don't know what TurboTax edition you used in the past, and "plain old format" is not enough info to know if you used desktop software or Online TurboTax. Are you saying you don't have a self-employed business and don't require a Schedule C for a business? In the past were you using a lower desktop edition via software installed from a CD or download? Or were you using Online TurboTax (web version through a browser)?
There is not an easy way to downgrade desktop software Home and Business Edition to a lower desktop edition, but it can be uninstalled then a lower edition installed. i.e., if you're in your 60-day window, you could get a refund for it through TurboTax Support, then you could either purchase a lower desktop edition to install (after doing a complete uninstall of Home and Business), or one could use Online TurboTax (web version).
NOTE: A desktop purchase of Home and Business cannot be used to pay for an Online product if you were to switch to Online TurboTax.
Desktop Premier includes a state program download.
Desktop Deluxe comes in 2 versions--a combo version that is Federal and State, or a Federal-only version with no state program.
Desktop Basic is a Federal-only product. With Basic, if you end up needing a state program there is an additional fee, and Basic cannot import from ItsDeductible.
In all the desktop products there is a $25 fee to efile a state return (except no fee for NY state.)
So sick off Turbo Tax's scamming of customers. Products and features with prices should be clearly disclosed when the return is started. It is impossible to not get used into the premium product now, then you start a return and there is no way to change to a lower-cost product. Enough Turbo Tax! You are already have been outed for defrauding people by the FTC over your "free"product. Why don't you clean up your act?
