I uploaded an electronic copy of my W2, but some of the data that showed up in my TurboTax return was different than the data in the W2. How could that be?

That can happen.   That's why you need to double check the import and fix it if needed.  What is different?

Boxes 3 and 6 had different numbers than those in the W2.
