Follow these steps:
- Open your Missouri return.
- Look for a section titled "Take a look at Missouri credits and taxes"
- Find "Circuit Breaker Credit."
- TurboTax will ask you a series of questions:
- Did you own or rent?
- What was your total household income (including non-taxable Social Security)?
- What were your 2025 property taxes (if you owned) or total rent paid?
To qualify for the 2025 tax year (filing in 2026), you must meet the following criteria:
- Age/Status: You are age 65 or older, OR age 60+ receiving surviving spouse benefits, OR 100% disabled.
- Residency: You must have been a Missouri resident for the entire year.
- Income Limits (New for 2026):
- Homeowners: Household total income must be $42,200 or less.
- Renters: Household income must be $38,200 or less.
- Maximum Credit: You can now receive up to $1,550 (homeowners) or $1,055 (renters).
