I thought I needed TT Premium, but can get by with Deluxe. But my return is complete, and they are telling me to pay for premium. How can I change it back to deluxe?

See if you can downgrade - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/change-service-level/downgrade-lower-pri...

If not you will have to clear your tax return and start over -

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2024 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

Yes, you can downgrade to the Deluxe version.   Follow these steps to downgrade to a different TurboTax Online product:

  1. Open your return if you haven't already.
  2. In the left menu, select Switch Products.
  3. Select Downgrade.

Dawn-thanks for your help.  There is no menu on the “left” to select.  Another note I saw was if TT is not giving me the menu option, then there is something in my return that requires Premium.  My frustration is that when I was going to do a Schedule D, TT required me to upgrade, but then I decided to forgo a small capital loss carryforward because the process was so complicated, so I don’t have a Schedule D.  But I can’t figure out how to get back to Deluxe.  I don’t really want to pay the additional $100.  I guess my other option is to start over, but I’m afraid I am  now pegged as a Premium customer, and even then the system won’t let me use Deluxe.

Can you clarify - are you using the desktop software (for Windows or Mac)  OR are you using TurboTax Online?

If you are using the desktop software, you do not have to upgrade - the desktop software handles everything TurboTax supports, so there is no need to upgrade.    You can enter your capital loss carryover in the desktop Deluxe product.   See below.

The downgrade option mentioned above only works in TurboTax Online.   Contact Support
