I stream on Twitch irregularly (Hobby/Community driven) and I was sent a 1099-MISC this year.

I was sent a 1099-MISC by Twitch this year after finally reaching their 'payout' threshold of over $100. I was paid out about $125. $22 of that payout was royalties (subscriptions on the website that I received).

I'm curious about whether or not I have to pay/file taxes this year over the $22 that is on the 1099-MISC they sent me. I only made that $125 in all of 2020 and have not filed taxes yet because I haven't been employed/working yet.

Yes. You have to pay tax on all your income. Because it did not reach the $400 threshold, you are not required to file a Schedule C. You can enter it as hobby income.

To enter your hobby income:

  • Go to Tax Tools
  • Tools
  • Topic Search and type HOBBY

Although you will be asked for expenses, you will not be able to deduct them under current law.
