I started receiving SSI in August of 2020 with back payments. However, Social Security has not sent me anything like a W2, so how do I submit a return?

I applied for SSDI and they gave me SSI instead.  I am only 50, so it's not technically retirement, is it?  I just don't know what I can do

There is a way to go on the Social Security website and request your SSA1099.  Go to www.ssa.gov  You have to create an account with a user name and password.

You have to understand what you are receiving.  If you are getting "SSI" that is not Social Security and you will not receive a SSA1099 or any other tax document for it.   If you are receiving Social Security Disability income then you should have received a SSA1099.

Thank you for your reply.  I understand that social security is different from SSI, but I get my paperwork from the SSA, which was my reference to Social Security.  But, if I don't get an SSA1099, how do I file my return?  I just want to make sure that I don't get in trouble.
