I assume you are asking about a 2019 return.   It takes approximately 45 days after the friend (a new TurboTax customer) redeemed the offer you sent them by preparing their TurboTax return through the link you had sent them.

There is no additional fee to amend a return that was prepared in TurboTax, unless you are required to upgrade because of some situation in your return.   If it was prepared in Online TurboTax, you'll first download the free 2018 amend software, then download your *.tax2018 data file to amend it in the special software.

An amended return cannot be efiled.  It has to be printed, signed, dated, and mailed.  It's recommended to mail by a method that has tracking, such as as certified mail, priority mail, etc.

It takes the IRS about 16 weeks to process an amended return.

If you only recently filed the 2018 return, then wait for any 2018 refund to arrive first before amending.

After 3 weeks from the time you mail it,  you should be able to track it at this IRS website:
