Following TurboTax's prompting, I filed an amended 2020 Federal return...I did this because I've rec'd unemployment benefits since Aug, 2020 and already had the taxes taken out since the beginning of benefits. However, when the CARES act (or one of those acts) was approved I did an amended return to recoup the taxes I had already paid on the first $10,200 of unemployment benefits. I did receive a direct deposit from IRS I think in July, 2021 but it was not even half of the amount I was supposed to get refunded to me. Can you shed some light on this situation for me?

Hello again, @clhodge1 !
Your amended return may have included additional credits that the reduction of taxable income made you eligible for, when you were not originally eligible. In that case, the IRS did not make any automatic adjustments. My suspicion in this case is that your amended return is in processing, and in the meantime the IRS automatically adjusted your original return for the unemployment compensation exclusion, without adding the credits.
When your amended return is processed, the IRS will do the necessary accounting on their end, and make sure that your account is made current. So, at that time you probably will receive the rest of the amount shown due to you on your amendment.
