I received a w2 for difficulty of care payments with blank boxes 1&2. Can I treat it same as my other w2's and get social security and Medicare tax withheld back.

I received a w2 for difficulty of care payments with blank boxes 1&2 but boxes (3,4,5,6) are not blank.  Can I treat this W2 same as my other income w2's and get extran social security and Medicare tax withheld back.

Yes, you should include this W-2 in your income tax return. However, you should be aware of the following:

  1. You would only receive a credit for excess Social Security tax withheld if, due to multiple employers, you had wages in excess of $128,400 from which Social Security taxes were withheld in 2018.
  2. All wages are subject to Medicare tax withholding, without limit.
  3. You will have to file your tax return by mail. The IRS will not accept for e-filing any tax return that includes a W-2 with Box 1 blank. Simply print, sign, and mail your return, with copies of all W-2s and of all 1099s showing federal tax withheld, to the IRS Service Center for your region. Form 1040 Mailing Addresses
