I printed my tax returns but NYS said that I can not mail them and must e-file instead. Intuit didn't give me that option. Now what?

Yes. NYS requires that you efile. However, you can only efile a state return in TurboTax if you are also efiling the Federal. Is there a specific reason you have to file a paper return for the Federal?

I have a simple, senior citizen form with no tax deductions and 0 amount owed to me. Turbo Tax said that e-file can not be offered to me under those circumstances.  I proceeded to go on on my state's site and they said I could mail the return to them.  Those conflicting messages are driving me nuts but I decided to mail the forms with a cover letter explaining those conflicts and I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you!

I have the same situation but i know what it is. Form 7202-t on the federal return can't be e-filed.  Therefore state has to be Mailed in as well. But when i read the pages my state return says:

"New York State law requires income tax returns prepared using software to be e- led. Because this New YorkState tax return was prepared using software, you MUST file it electronically."

Could i get some help? I just need to make sure that my state won't be denied for mailing in when it says it must be e-filed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Per NYS, you're required to electronically file your return if you meet all three of the following conditions:

  • You use software to prepare your own personal income tax return
  • Your software supports the electronic filing of your return
  • You have broadband Internet access

You are qualified to mail in your return because your software does not support electronic filing of one of your forms.

There is no penalty for mailing in your return.

If you are NOT including a payment, mail your return to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 61000

ALBANY NY 12261-0001

If you ARE including a payment (check or money order), mail your return (including Form IT-201-V) to:

STATE PROCESSING CENTER

PO BOX 15555

ALBANY NY 12212-5555
