It's easy to get help with TurboTax Live. As you prepare your taxes, you can quickly connect with one of our credentialed tax experts using one-way video or phone. Make sure you're in a TurboTax Live product. If you are, you'll see TurboTax Live mentioned in the left menu.

Once you've confirmed you're using TurboTax Live:

  1. Select the floating Live help button in the bottom right corner.
  2. Select Let's talk.
  3. Enter your question or topic area and Continue.
  4. Select your preferred method for connecting with a tax expert.

The process is a little different if you're using the TurboTax mobile app. We've got instructions for how to connect with a tax expert on the app.

Be aware that the Live products add considerable extra expense to your return preparation fees, which is OK if you do indeed want help with return preparation from a tax expert.    Many people end up in Live by mistake or without knowing about the additional fee.

As an example, regular Deluxe is currently discounted at $40 for Federal and $40 for state (normally $60 and $50), while Deluxe Live is currently discounted to $90 for Federal and $50 for state (normally $120 and $55).

I'm a fellow user and do not work for TurboTax.   It's not clear what all your situation is.

Who are the "they" that are saying??   Is this your situation:  Did you get an email from TurboTax that has this subject: “CRITICAL STIMULUS UPDATE: Update Your Stimulus Payment Direct Deposit Information”

If you received that email, see if this FAQ is your situation, and how to update your info:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/internal-revenue-service/help/update-your-stimulus-payment-direct-deposit-information/01/1794099

Otherwise, if you need additional help you can either start your own new thread in this user community forum where someone might be familiar with your issue, or contact TurboTax Support.

I received disability payment from The Hartford and I need to amend my return to include this

Employee Tax Expert

Please see the link below for instructions on how to amend your tax return to include your disability payment.

Steps for amending a tax return

Please be aware, if you are trying to amend your return for the 2020 Income Tax return, you will not be able to do so yet.  The IRS is not accepting electronically filed tax returns until February 12, 2021.

You will need to wait until your 2020 income tax return is transmitted and accepted by the IRS before you can amend your return.

If your return is not accepted, you may not need to amend your tax return. You would simply be able to log back into TurboTax to add your disability payment and then proceed to file again.

To complete and file a 2019 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2019 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2019 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.

@Logyn006 Once you submit your tax return, you'll have to wait until the IRS processes and either accepts or rejects it before you can make any changes.

If rejected, you can simply revisit your return and correct the name (as well as fix whatever caused the rejection): How do I fix a rejected return?

If accepted, you will need to amend your tax return: How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed

Thank you, if I need help amending my return will this help be available?  I had not received my $600 stimulus when I filed but received a check afterwards and that is why I need to amend my return as soon as my return is processed so I do not erroneously receive another $600 stimulus.

You won't need to amend your return for that. The IRS keeps track of what stimulus payments they send you and they will adjust your tax return accordingly.

I have completed my 2020 return, but it was rejected.  I need to change my AGI FOR 2019 TO 0.  I do not know how to do this.  Once i am able to do this then the IRS will accept my return.

i also then need to figure out how to file a 2019 return which i swear it did through either TURBOTAX last year, although i cant find....so obviously not!  If not you, then i probably did through the IRS e-file.  All i know is i remember telling my husband I was done but could not get my printer to work.  But not to worry!  Ha to me.  The IRS says i did not file.  Although no issue, i was to get tiny refund anyway!  :/.

Please be careful and don't post your personal information here in this public forum. It has been removed for your security.

When you log into TurboTax select fix my return. Follow the steps in this TurboTax FAQ to change your AGI to 0: Fix my AGI

You won't be able to file a prior year tax return by using a TurboTax online product past the filing season for that year.

Please click the TurboTax FAQ below to learn how to file a prior year's tax return with TurboTax Desktop.  You will need to mail it in as the IRS does not accept e-filed tax returns for a prior year. How do I prepare a 2019, 2018, or 2017 tax return?

When your return is rejected by the IRS, it is as if you never e-filed it.

So you can re-open your return, fix what needs to be fixed, and then e-file it as if for the first time.

Did it reject for the AGI?  When did you file 2019? If it was late in the year or you mailed it, try putting in zero for the AGI. And see, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-getting-an-e-file-reject/00/27031

How to correct the AGI
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/agi/help/where-do-i-correct-my-agi-in-turbotax-online/00/26311

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.
How to mail a return from the Online version
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online/00/26258

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
