I need to know how to remove my child from my taxes. My wife claimed him and we are filing seperatly

If you haven't filed yet, you can remove your child from your return in the MY INFO section.

If you have already filed, and your return has been Accepted, wait until you receive your refund to submit an Amended Return with your child removed.

If you have Not filed your 2023 tax return you can remove him as a dependent in the My Info section of the program.

Click on My Info on the left side of the online program screen.

If you have filed the 2023 tax return then you will need to amend the return to remove him as a dependent.

If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.
