If your return was rejected with error code R0000-500-01, it is because the taxpayer last name does not match the social security records on file with the IRS.  Open your tax file and go to Personal Info. Review the Social Security Number and Name that you entered.  

The IRS obtains Social Security Number and Name information from the Social Security Administration (SSA).  If the taxpayer's information was recently updated (for example a name change), the IRS may not yet have received the updated information from the SSA.  You can try entering the old last name.   If the reject persists you will need to print and file your return by mail.
