Tax Year Prior to 2020: I need my w2 from Walmart. I don't know my EIN because I no longer work there.

You have to contact your employer for a copy of the 2020 W-2.  TurboTax does not have access to any W-2's.

@Sailorsmom

I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2  (or 1099)

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s).   You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $90).

To get a copy of a W-2 from Social Security https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

https://www.irs.gov/help-resources/tools-faqs/faqs-for-individuals/frequently-asked-tax-questions-an...

If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS:  It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received.  It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Or you can pay the IRS $43 for an actual copy of your tax return which will include copies of your W-2’s

@reereecolbert Then you have to contact Walmart to get it.   TurboTax does not have your W-2 and cannot get it for you.   W-2's come from your employer.   Contact them to ask for copies of your W-2's.

Some employers allow you to import the W-2 through the software, but for security reasons you still need information from the actual W-2 to import it.    It is not possible to import a 2019 W-2; you might still be able to import one for 2020.    You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

If you have not filed a tax return for 2019, make sure you understand that you cannot file that return using online TurboTax.   A 2019 return has to be prepared using 2019 software and 2019 forms.   More about that later.

Online is only for 2020 returns, and e-filing will be available for 2020 returns until October 15, 2021.   After that, e-filing will close and a 2020 return will have to be mailed.

Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year.  They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them.  Software for past years is available back to 2017.  Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.

The current online program can only be used for a 2020 return--no other year.  And if you did not file a 2019 return you will have trouble e-filing 2020.  When it asks for your 2019 AGI try using zero.  If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2020.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2017, 2018 and 2019 is permanently closed.

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2017, 2018, or 2019 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

As stated on the back of the W-2 -
Keep Copy C of Form W-2 for at least 3 years after the due date for filing your income tax return. However, to help protect your social security benefits, keep Copy C until you begin receiving social security benefits, just in case there is a question about your work record and/or earnings in a particular year.

TurboTax does not have a copy of the W-2 or Form 1099. It would have W-2 and Form 1099 worksheets that included the tax data from the forms that were entered. The worksheets would be included in the PDF of the tax return in the tax year the return was completed.

Copies of a Form 1099 would have to obtained from the issuer of the form.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you cannot obtain the W-2 from your employer, then for a fee you can get a complete copy of a W-2 from the Social Security Administration - https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

You can get a free Wage and Income transcript from the IRS - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return to include copies of W-2's, if you mailed the tax return and included a paper W-2, from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Contact your employer for how to receive the corrected W-2, Form W-2C.

are you sure you were treated as an employee rather than an independent contractor then contact your employer?

if they won't send out a copy you can get a W-2 transcript (wage and income) from the IRS. this contains only federal info - no state info

@Pcollins0528 If you worked as an employee then you were supposed to get your W-2 from the employer by the end of January.   TurboTax does not have your W-2 and cannot get it for you.   You have to get it from the employer, or as suggested in a previous reply, use a wage and income transcript to get the federal income information.

You might need to phone, drop in, email and/or snail mail an old employer to make sure they know where to send your W-2.

If you were an independent contractor---not an actual employee--- then you will not have a W-2.  You report your self-employment income as explained even if you did not receive a 1099NEC for it.

@Joel landu  YOU have to contact Walmart and ask how to get the W-2.    TurboTax does not have your W-2.   W-2's come from the employer.   Call the personnel office, or Human Relations, or payroll and ask for a copy of your W-2.   The W-2's for 2020 tax returns would have been issued in late January of 2021 so you have had months to take care of it.   The W-2's for the 2021 tax year will be issued by the end of January 2022.
