Since you got married in 2024, you cannot file as "Single" for that tax year.
Here are your options:
Married Filing Jointly:
- You can choose to treat your nonresident alien spouse as a U.S. resident for tax purposes.
- File a joint return and report both your worldwide incomes.
- Attach a signed statement to your joint return declaring your choice.
- Your spouse will need an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). Submit Form W-7 to apply. Learn more and how to apply for an ITIN.
Married Filing Separately:
- File separately if you do not choose to treat your spouse as a U.S. resident.
- This option may result in a higher tax liability due to the loss of certain tax benefits - it depends, see here.
