I made less than $12,000 in 2018 but $8,000 of those dollars are on a 1099-misc. Do I need to file taxes for 2018?

I made about $2,000 on W-2s and $8,000 on the 1099. So my total income for 2018 was about $10,000; well below the $12,000 cut off for not needing to file.

But because of my 1099 will I have to file? I'd like to just not file at all for 2018. Thank you for your help!

Yes you must file a tax return. You will not owe any ordinary income tax but you must pay 15.3% self employment tax on the 1099-MISC income if it was income from working with the amount in box 7.

If you are using the online product, you will need to upgrade to Deluxe to enter the income and if you have any associated expenses, you must upgrade to Self Employed.

If you are using the CD/download product installed on your computer, you can use any version.
