If this was your only self employed work, then you won't need to worry about self-employment taxes since the total amount is under $400. In this case, you will be able to enter the income as just miscellaneous income.
To enter this miscellaneous income -
- Click on Federal Taxes (may say Personal if using desktop Home and Business)
- Select the Income tab
- When the page opens, click "Jump to or Show full list” if it is not displaying the full list of income items (you might need to scroll down past your common income items).
- Scroll down to the very last item, Less Common Income and click “Show More” to expand the list
- Select "Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C”
- Select “Other Reportable Income” - the very last item (There is another “other” category that is the first choice - do not use that one)
- Enter the income amount and a description and this will place the income on Line 21 of Form 1040, Schedule 1
If you did have more self-employment income, then you will need to add this income as a Schedule C business to include it in your net self-employment income calculations. Type “Schedule C" in the search box, top right of your screen, then click the magnifying glass. Click the "jump to schedule c" link in the search results. You will arrive at the Your Business summary page where you can add/edit a business for Rover. Proceed through and add the income as general cash income.
