You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.

Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.

What is the rejection code or rejection message?

If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2022 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?

Do you get any message with the rejection email, or when you try to submit your return again?

It says that my wife’s ss# and last name doesn’t match up but it is all correct.

Yes, that means that your wife's last name and Social Security number don't match the Social Security Administration's (SSA) database.

If you wife hasn't changed her name on her Social Security card, or if she did it in the last few months, that would cause this problem. You can try hyphenating her last name.

For example, if her old name was Mary Smith and her new name is Mary Jones, you can file it as Mary Smith-Jones.

If that's not the issue, you need to call the SSA and verify her last name, date of birth, and Social Security number. They may have a mistake in their records. Follow this link to contact them.
